NO PAIN NO GAIN
Sick of seeing the gangs push the good folks in his neighbourhood around John decided to push back. Whenever the gangs members from Hellion and the Skulls came knocking.
John was there waiting for them. He took out the gang members and have the PPD arrived later to cart them away to jail. Despite his efforts the gangs kept returning and sometimes they would turn up while he was out at work.
Realizing that he can't always be around to keep an eye on the neighbourhood John went on the offensive. After roughing up several gang members, he finally found that the Hellions were holed up in an abandoned warehouse.
Arriving at the warehouse he found the Hellions well prepared. Although severely outnumbered, John defeated the Hellions. Just as he was about to leave, the Skulls arrived to thrash the Hellion's joint.
Turns out that the Hellions were preparing for the Skulls. Elated with the Hellion's defeat and only a lone hero standing in their way. The Skulls raid leader ordered his gang members to punish John for his defiance in resisting their attempts to claim John's neighbourhood.
Already injured, John was at an disadvantage and was eventually overwhelmed. Beaten to a bloody pulp, he finally blacked out and collapse to the ground.
Opening his eyes groggily he realize he is no longer in the warehouse but in a hospital. Looking around he saw a stranger leaning against the wall peering out of the window. The man turned around and introduced himself as Derek Amberson, liaison for heroes like John.
John struggled to get up but his body protested vehmently in pain. Derek's sensing John's difficulty calmed him down and suggested that John signed on as a registered hero. He further elaborated that registered heroes receive more resources and stronger support for their contributions in making Paragon City safe.
TRAINING TO BE A HERO
Immediately after his recovery, John took on Derek's advice and became a registered hero. Receiving his medi porter for the first time, he was also introduced to a network of heroes and contacts that greatly helped his crimefighting career.
Weeks gone by as John settled in his new crimefighting career and gained valueable experience that no training could provide.
He was soon pointed to a part of Paragon City that desparately needed the presence of heroes. It was the hardzone known as... the Hollows. There he met up with Lt Wincott & Meg Mason aiding them in their efforts to retake the hazardzone for Paragon City.
It was also here John met one of his greatest challenges.
He came face to face with Frostfire, an ex-hero that has fallen to the life of crime. Frostfire cautioned that John would end up the same and the world is more complicated than it is.
Disagreeing, John tried to arrest Frostfire. But Frostfire would have none of it and swiftly overpowered John with his elemental powers. Although defeated, John was determined to bring the miscreant to justice and tried several new tactics and strategies.
Not meeting with much success and ending up in the infirmary for the 3rd time. John finally decided that to tap into the network of superheroes. With the help of 7 other heroes, John finally defeated Frostfire, putting the former hero behind bars.
