COX: Character Concepts

A friend of my friend. Well now an acquaintance of mine has set-up this Heroes International League. A group of super powered individuals all hailing from different countries. From a backstory POV, I would guess its formed for diplomatic reasons and probably funded by something like the UN.

Each super hero is a chosen representative of their country and the rule of thumb seems to be that only one char from each country. So you can't have two heroes representing United States.

Good thing the leader of the Supergroup did not specify how or why you were chosen to represent your nation. I always believe that politics have always been a complicated affair. Which was the theme on how the character I created was selected to represent his nation.

Anyway back to toying with the concept of the characters. I believe each of them should have some sort of a theme to it.

1. Rangi's Rage - A New Zealander Superhero of Maori ethnicity.
Background
The current ruling party has not been seen in good light by the Maori communities in recent years. So the Nz govt intends to garner their support by having a Maori represent the entire nation on an international level.

Progression
I'm unlikely to play this character very much. Rangi's was just a mutant with special powers and never had any dreams of becoming a superhero. All he wanted was to go home and was only here as instructed. I plan to move him into a Rogue or Vigilante after he has been exposed and become jaded with the world.

W.I.P

2. Siti Aminah - A Singaporean (Mutant? / Blaster?)
If Asians were under represented in gaming media. Malays are even more so. Might as well just have a character of Malay ethnicity. Throw in the current political scene in Singapore and I got a good reason why she is heading for Paragon City.

3. Jay Chow - Criminal MM from Hongkong
Yes, a stereotypical criminal mastermind from the Hongkong triads. This was easy if not the most unoriginal concept ever... Especially if you watched alot of hongkong flicks in the 80 to 90s.

4. Katana Scrapper - (???)    
Made something similar except he was a Vampire who lived for centuries

Probably with Regeneration secondary. Inspired from the Highlander series. This character is supposed to have lived through the ages due to his regeneration abilities. Have not decided on the gender and alignment either.

5. Kinetic Melee Scrapper - (???)
I just want another martial arts person. No idea on the gender or alignment either. But was thinking along the lines of Dong Fang Bu Bai.

6. Titan Weapons Brute
The Powerset isn't even out yet but I do want someone with a big weapon running around. I am toying around with the idea of a puritanical religious warrior or a computer / novel char brought to life by an arcane ritual gone wrong.

7. Arachnos Widow
A pugulistic warrior that is more like an assasin but not affiliated with the Villian side. Think of him as Shinobi with a twist.

8. Axe / Shield
Probably make it a brute or scrapper of magic origin. Either a minotaur or a birdman... but I'm torn on which it should be. Though definitely villian side.

9. Beam Gun / Corrupter
A dimensional traveller from another time or world? Too much like Bishop and Cable from the X-Men series.... Needs work on the background story.

10. A Ninja MM
A fuedal overlord from Japan who has survived two centuries. He is actually a mutant and believes in creating the perfect mutant by mating with another superior mutant. Its his method to pass on his legacy of his empire. Probably believes all ordinary humans are unworthy and are fit only to be servants or slaves.

11. Crazed Necromancer
A man who has trouble letting go. Learns necromancy to bring back his dead wife. Something goes wrong and drives him insane.

12. A daemonic Entity who summons daemons...
A Daemon trying to invade this world. It assumes human form in either gender and summons his minions to do his bidding.

13. A shapeshifting Mutant
I have no idea what his powerset should be....

14. Street Justice (Scrapper or Brute??)
John Keegan's cousin brought back to life by Crey Scientist and imbued with super powers. His personality has shifted due to the traumatic experience he has undergone. He will be John's achilles heel. A evil version of a martial arts practioner.

15. Super Strength Tanker
I'm torn between making him a Daemonic enforcer of no. 12 or a super robot created by Eva Omega. I might make both, but not keen on using a powerset twice.

16. Papa Forest
A character from Papau New Guinea - Rather corny name. Papa Forest commands the power of plants and the earth. I plan to have him as a Dominator. I'm unsure if he will be of magic or mutant origin.

17. Color Wolf
Translated directly to mandarin - word for word. This means pervert. Probably with claw powerset and of science origin.

18. Vengeance
A mutant victim of Unit 731 during the WW II era. It is believed that the experiment reacted or triggered his mutant ability. He was later freed after the Japanese surrender. However was subsequently recaptured by US Covert Ops for further experimentations.

19. Magi
A mage from another dimension. Probably an empathy defender.

Background

Duke lost family during the Hamidon wars back when he was still a kid. It was through sheer luck that he managed to survived and was brought to Praetoria by other survivors. Growing up has not been easy and Duke learnt how to fend for himself. He knew that he had to be strong to survive the coming years.

Some say that Duke became the man he is today due to his harsh experiences but only Duke himself knows. Strength & Power are the only thing that mattered to him. Those who are weak deserved to be sidelined and let the stronger ones climb on their backs.

When he was old enough, Duke applied to join the PPD believing that a strong arm of law is necessary to eradicate the fringe elements. Unfortunately for him but fortunately for the people of Praetoria, Duke of rejected. Not one to take no for an answer. Duke trained harder and reapplied with the PPD. Yet he was turn down again. Each time he was rejected, he trained even harder.

Until finally the recruiters can no longer stand seeing him again and again. The recruiters revealed that he passed the physical test but failed on the psychological evaluation. He was deemed too extreme & exhibited streaks of sadomasochism in him. Needless to say, Duke did not take it too well, causing a ruckus and was eventually imprisoned for a short-time.

Months after his release from BAF, he chanced across a skirmish between the PPD & the resistance. Taking the opportunity, he joined in the fray and defeated the resistance members. Though not before the resistance managed to take down most of the PPD.

Surveying the scene he noticed one of the PPD member who was still alive although badly injured. Recognizing the wounded cop to be the PPD recruiter, Duke grinned menacingly. Using a resistance weapon, Duke finished off the dying officer to made it look like he was killed in the fight.

Picking up a PPD transponder, Duke radioed in reinforcements. Unaware of what actually happened, the PPD reinforcements who arrived later were grateful for Duke's assistance. For his 'valiant' efforts, they rewarded him with a partial suit of power armour & also contact for a liaison should he wish further contribute to Praetoria.

POWERS

Toughness. As an orphan. Duke grew up learning how to fend for himself. Dishing out punishment and taking it as well. In addition to his sadistic way of training himself up. He is as tough as nails for a mortal human.

Strength. If there is one thing Duke understands it would be might equals right. To this end, he constantly pushes himself to become stronger.


ABILITIES

Advanced Mechanical Skills. If Duke isn't working out in the gym, he is in his workshop. building and fixing stuff. This gave him an insight on how to repair or improve existing hardware that he lays his hands on.

Brawler. Going through the school of hardknocks definitely taught Duke a thing or two about fighting to survive. When it comes to melee combat, he is definitely no pushover and enjoys laying down the pain on those dumb enough to stand in his way.

PARAPHERNALIA

PPD Chest Armour 2.0 beta
Given to Duke as a reward. This PPD is made of ceramite alloy that protects its users against light munitions. To improve survivability of PPD officers, scientist has included a M.P.D.F device on the armour. The Mobile Pre-emptive Deflective Forcefield device projects a minor force field that moves around the wearer intercepting incoming attacks. Needless to say, this armour is still in testing stages and Duke is the guinea pig.

Retrofitted Power Gloves

A trophy looted from a resistance member. Duke has managed to repair it and improvised it. The gloves when worn will augment the wearers strength and also release an explosive energy when striking a target.

Cigars & chewing gum

Duke is never without either one of them.

Sunglasses
Blocks out sunflares, gunfire muzzleflash and amongst many other bright lights generated by those with special powers. It also makes Duke look more badass.
